Usage-Based Insurance

Usage-based insurance, is a way for you to opt-in to share your driving data, and based on how you and your family drive, potentially save money on an auto insurance policy.

Where you drive also affects how likely you are to be involved in a crash, however, the use of GPS data is becoming more common. Select Toyota model cars provide Toyota with information about your speed, how many miles you drive, longest and shortest drives, among other points of information. If you have opted-in to sharing your driving vehicle data, you are eligible to receive an annual report of your driving activity.

To take advantage of usage-based insurance through Toyota Insurance, you must agree to share your driving data. You can easily opt in to share your data from the Toyota Owners website www.ToyotaOwners.com by going to Manage Preferences and select the box to Opt in to Use Your Vehicle Driving Data. You can get a complimentary annual report of your driving data at connectedanalyticservices.com..

Your vehicle driving data will be reviewed for up to 90 days. At that time, we will let you know whether you may qualify to receive a quote based upon your driving data. Even if you do not qualify after the initial timeframe, your driving data may continue to be monitored so we can let you know if things change.

You always can get a traditional quote from Toyota Insurance. You might miss out on significant savings, however.

Usage-based insurance is currently offered in all states except Alaska, California, Hawaii, North Carolina and New York.

Coverage

Yes! The insurance companies we partner with will provide an auto insurance quote for other makes and models. Original Equipment Manufacturer (Toyota Genuine Parts) parts coverage for vehicles other than Toyota or Lexus will be subject to vehicle eligibility.

In general, auto insurance is a collection of coverages for different events, such as damage you cause to other people or their property (liability coverage), or damage to your vehicle (physical damage coverage). Most states have minimum liability insurance requirements, but they often are very low and may not be enough to cover repair costs or medical expenses. If you still are making payments on your car, your lender typically will require you to purchase specific coverages. A Toyota Insurance agent can explain what is required in your state and help you choose a policy that suits your needs.

Auto insurance policies offer many different types of coverage. Here are some of the most common options, and what they cover:

  • Bodily Injury coverage (BI) — This covers you when you cause an injury to another person. It pays for their medical care, loss of income and additional expenses. It also can cover your legal defense if you are sued for causing the injury.
  • Collision coverage — This pays for the damage to your vehicle caused when your vehicle hits another vehicle or a stationary object, such as a building.
  • Comprehensive coverage – This covers your vehicle for damage caused by something other than a collision, such as a tree falling on your car.
  • Medical Payments or Personal Injury Protection (PIP) — This covers you or anybody in your vehicle who needs medical treatment after an accident.
  • Property Damage coverage (PD) — This pays for damage you do to other people’s property. Most often this means the other person’s vehicle, but it can include buildings, fences and other property.
  • Rental Car coverage — If you are in a collision, this coverage provides you with a rental vehicle while yours is being repaired if the accident was your fault or the other driver did not have insurance.
  • Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist coverage (UIM) — Many drivers don’t have adequate insurance. These coverages pay for the medical expenses of you and your passengers when injuries are caused by another driver who is either uninsured or doesn’t have enough insurance to cover your costs. Coverage for damage to your vehicle also can be included

Insurance companies offer customers a variety of ways to save on insurance, such as discounts for having multiple policies. The following discounts may be available from our insurance partners (availability varies by state and insurance company):

  • Homeowner
  • Paid in full
  • Good driver
  • Vehicle safety features
  • Multiple-policy
  • Good student

Toyota Genuine Parts

Toyota Genuine Parts have been engineered to meet Toyota’s safety, reliability, and functionality standards. To learn more visit the Toyota Genuine Parts page.

The Toyota Genuine Parts benefit is not available to vehicles that are older than 10 “model years”. Please see your policy documents for details.

For recent model year Toyota and Lexus vehicles (and some other vehicle makes), Toyota Insurance’s partners offer policies that will pay for Toyota Genuine Parts replacement, if such parts are available, even when other replacement parts are less expensive. In some instances, Toyota Genuine Parts may not be available in your area, or the repair facility may recommend using other replacement parts. Please consult the policy documents for details.

If you are not at fault in the collision, your repairs will be subject to the terms of the other party’s insurance coverage. This may not include Toyota Genuine Parts.

Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts are replacement parts that were designed for your non-Toyota/Lexus vehicle when it was originally sold.

OEM Parts for vehicles other than Toyota or Lexus will be be subject to vehicle eligibility for each carrier.

Claims

Contacting your insurance company directly is the quickest and easiest way to report a claim via our Claims Center.

For the best service, have the following information available, whether you’re reporting a claim via phone or online:

  • Your policy number
  • Information about the loss
  • Multiple phone numbers (cell, home and work) and your email address, so the adjuster can provide information and return your calls quickly

State insurance laws allow you to choose where your vehicle is repaired, even when an insurance company is paying for the repairs. In addition to repair facilities in your Insurer’s network, you can choose a Toyota Certified Collision Center.
